Yes, it’s ten years since INCEPTIO burst into the world. For some full-on nostalgia, here’s what happened in 2013 when it launched at Tunbridge Wells Waterstones with broadcaster SueCook speaking.
Ten years is a long time for a book. Many don’t make it into bookshops at all. Some only survive there for six weeks. The lucky few stay for a while longer and if the publisher pays, a book may make it to a treasured place on a topic table or a 2-for-1 spot.
This is where buying (and selling) through online stores wins!
However, I’d strongly encourage you to order through your local bookshop or indeed your library, even it it takes a little while – we need both to flourish.
Anyway, I thought it would be worth marking my first book’s endurance with something special so I commissioned Jessica Bell Design to come up with something appropriate. Well, when I saw it, my jaw really did drop! She’s also designed an equally gorgeous design for the hard cover under the dust jacket.
I reformatted the original paperback version and have added two new short stories and some scenes at which our heroine Karen/Carina is not present:
Three character ‘conversations’:
- Captain Conradus Tellus on going to New York to deliver a message
- Silvia Apulia, Imperatrix of Roma Nova on meeting Aurelia’s newly arrived granddaughter
- Aurelia Mitela on confronting Conrad after the visit to Silvia
Two short stories:
- When Flavius met Apollodorus
- The Mystery of Marina Mitela (Yes, we learn what happened to Carina’s mother.)
The INCEPTIO story (in which I explain myself!)

Buy it from the following retailers:
Amazon Barnes & Noble Waterstones Online Bookshop.org US or through your local bookshop. (UK link)
(And whatever Amazon says on its UK store page, it is freely available from them – just order it and it will come 😉 )
I’ll probably have it attached to me by an invisible cord when I go to UK events this year. If you come and say hello at any of them, I’ll be thrilled to show you the symbol of ten years’ happy publishing. 🙂
