Alison Morton had me hooked from the very first page of the novel. Taking the reader from present day New York to Roma Nova an alternative Roman World in Northern Italy, both cultures and locations are well written. Alison Morton creates a great sense of time and place with detailed descriptions and nice dialogue. Karen Brown meets Conrad Tellus within a great storyline. I really took to Karen, but all the characters were well developed and grew as the story unfolded. The novel moves at a very fast pace and is pure escapism with a lot of suspense and tension. The author is a very good storyteller and has great imagination. Her language is easy to read but yet detailed and believable. It has a good plotline and twists and turns keep the readers interest. There is a bit of romance as well. It will appeal to readers of all genres. A great holiday read, a great book to become immersed in. A gripping read.

Great book! Interesting characters and story line, fast paced, and very imaginative! It took me a couple chapters to ease into the alternate history (I kept thinking, “that’s not what happened”), but then you really get into the idea of what if this is really the way it did happen. As a women, I totally loved the idea of a country run by women! Very Amazonian! I’m excited to read the next one!
“Brilliant. Fantastic. . This book did not disappoint. I read it within three days, could not put it down. I was attracted to the cover straight away. I wanted to find out more about Karen ( the main character), how she overcame her personal challenges just to stay alive. A true heroine! Really looking forward to the next book. When is that please?”
