Sarah Berry, founder/first editor of The Deux-Sèvres Monthly says:
“Alison’s passion and zest for writing shine through in every article she produces and this has certainly helped guide our readers to begin, or continue, their writing whether an article, short story or that ‘dream novel’.”
Why this book?
Over three ago, Alison approached Sarah and offered a column on writing and publishing. As Cicero said, everybody seemed to be writing a book; our quiet corner of France was an ideal place to do just that. Alison wanted to pass on the things she’d been learning since becoming a full-time writer in 2009.
Each column was around 500 words – hence the title of this book. Alison says, ‘I’ve been delighted by the reaction; writers come and chat to me at events, send me emails and sometimes their writing. There is nothing like getting together with other ‘scribblers’. But over the past year or so I’ve been asked for copies of previous articles; readers had mislaid or given away their copy of ‘The Deux-Sèvres Monthly’ (or had it pinched!). I’ve now expanded the 25 original articles into 35 to include a new section on genres and new articles on editing, feedback and pricing.’
